Fantasy abandoned by reason produces impossible monsters; united with her, she is the mother of the arts and the origin of their marvels. --- Francisco Goya, Painter.
Ok, so Goya probably wasn't thinking of your typical fashion sewista when he spouted this bit of brillance but for me his idea fits as sweetly as a set in sleeve. The artistic process, whether it be creating sculpture, music, a piece of performace art or the perfect LBD(little black dress), requires equal doses of fantasy and reason for it to become something worthwhile.
I lean a bit more heavily on the side of fantasy. Detals don't come easily to me and as we all know fashion sewing is about the details and about taking a reasoned approach to construction. *sigh.* I'm gradually getting better at paying attention to the practical and as a result not only is my sewing getting better but I'm actually starting to see some of my sewing fantasies come true.
Are you more of a fantasy first or more a reason first kind of sewista, or have you somehow found the magic balance between the two?
